What resources does the University Learning Center (ULC) have for faculty?
1 The Learning Center has the following resources:
a. Professional-level tutoring in Writing, Mathematics (including all Core Statistics courses), Reading and Study Skills.
b. Coordinators offer a number of in-class workshops tailored to your needs.
c. A number of continuous Writing, workshops are offered each term in the Library.
d. Specialized workshops to assist students who are preparing for the CLAST.
What other services are provided at the ULC?

The
Center is equipped with computer tutorials that allow students to practice their
skills in a number of areas, including writing, mathematics, statistics, and
speed reading. For students taking
the CLAST test, we offer a practice test as well as tutorials.
Our website also has great resources for students.
How do I refer students to the ULC?
3 Simply send the student to our office. It is always beneficial for students to know what skills need to be improved. A referral form is available on-line for this purpose.
If I have a student with a disability, where can I send him/her?
4 Generally, students who are diagnosed with a disability are already registered with the Office of Disabilities on campus. The Office of Disabilities works closely with students to determine how best to assist them in their educational needs. Coordinators and tutors in our Center have often worked closely with the Office of Disabilities to provide tutoring to students with special needs.
Is there a way I can follow-up on the student’s attendance or progress?
5 The ULC has a computerized tracking program indicating the date, time, and duration of the student’s stay. You can request that information from the student or by contacting the Center.
How can I assure that my students are receiving good quality service?
6 All ULC tutors must have expertise in their subject-area, pass all sections of the CLAST exam, and be recommended by a faculty member to work at the Center. Additionally, tutors engage in continuous training in pedagogy, subject-area skills, and Center procedures and policies. In fact, many of our tutors are graduate students and adjuncts with years of teaching experience.
Could I recommend a student as a tutor?
7 If you know a student who is interested in becoming a tutor please feel free to refer him/her to our office.
Do students pay to attend the Center?
8 The vast majority of our services are free; however, certain CLAST specialized workshops may require a minimal fee when it is taught outside of the ULC and by instructors as opposed to tutors.
Is there a handout or brochure I can peruse to learn more about the ULC?

How best can I inform my students about the Center?
10 The easiest way is to direct them to our website or ask them to stop by our office. Of course, we are always willing to stop by your classroom to do a five minute presentation about our services. We are always encouraged when instructors invite us into their classrooms.
